RSB, Marcos and Kurokokok filed their certificates of candidacy before the Negros Occidental Commission on Elections office in Bacolod City yesterday.
RSB is running for board member of the second district, Marcos for congressman of the first district, and Kurokokok for congressman of the fourth district.
But RSB is no relative of the late sugar czar Roberto S. Benedicto, he is Raul Sayson Baterna and his battle cry is “Sell the cows and sheep, buy carabaos.”
Baterna, 65, a resident of Sagay City, was a staff sergeant in the defunct Philippine Constabulary, and is now a farmer. He is running for board member of the second district as an independent.
In 2007, he ran for mayor against then Sagay Mayor Alfredo Marañon Jr. and lost. In 2013, he is supporting the gubernatorial bid of Marañon because they are both from Sagay City, he said.
But he said the provincial government should sell its cows and sheep to raise P200 million to buy carabaos that are more practical and can be used by agrarian reform beneficiaries to till their lands to ensure food security.
When cows reach menopause they cannot produce milk anymore, he said.
Only three “dogs” from Sagay City killed the 400 sheep of the provincial government, he said, adding that he will probably name them during the campaign.
Baterna said he has been a law student and his daughter, Liway Baterna, is a beauty queen who is now a flight stewardess.
Leopoldo Guanson Sua, 44, of Escalante City filed his CoC to run as congressman of the first district of Negros Occidental.
He listed “Marcos” as his nickname in his CoC, saying that’s what his grandmother used to call him.
He said he will give help to the people every month depending on what he earns as a congressman.
Ledonardo Carlillos Erolas, 64, on the other hand, filed his CoC for congressman of the fourth district.
Erolas, from Valladolid, is running as an independent and listed “Kurokokok” as his nickname.*CPG back
