The Department of Trade and Industry pushing for a robust and sustainable Philippine bamboo industry by 2016, its press release said.
The agency is also eyeing to help position the country as a key player in the world bamboo industry next to China by 2020.
The Philippine Bamboo Congress was organized recently to increase public awareness on the potentials of bamboo. By maximizing the use of bamboo in producing products like furniture, handicrafts and construction materials, DTI Undersecretary for Regional Operations and Development Group Merly Cruz said.

The president of the International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements Andre Leu expressed his interest in witnessing and attending the organic festival of Negros Occidental, Ramon Uy Jr., president of Organic na Negros! Organic Producers and Retailers Association, said yesterday.
Uy who recently attended the First International Organic Marketing Conference with Leu in Manila, said that he was surprised that the IFOAM president knows about Negros Occidental and its organic movement.
He said Leu told him the province has a big potential for getting into the international market.
PAL hiring more
pilots, flight crew
With its network and fleet expansion, Philippine Airlines is in need of additional pilots and cabin crew, a press release from PAL said.
The flag carrier is calling on interested parties for the position of captain and second officers to drop in their resumes, together with copies of their licenses, medical records, official flying hours, to the PAL Job Fair at Radisson Blu Hotel in Cebu City from Friday to Sunday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Applicants for cabin attendants from Central, Eastern and Western Visayas may apply in person, the press release said.
