‘Battered’ wife kills hubby

It was supposed to be a happy birthday, but it turned to be a tragedy for the celebrator and his parents.

Jimmy Sanduga, 57, was hacked dead, Friday allegedly by his own wife, Nilda, 53, after he beat her when he was already drunk, Chief Inspector Gabriel Gutierrez, Sagay police chief, said yesterday.

The incident took place in the house of the couple in Brgy. Baviera, Sagay City, when their son was celebrating his birthday.

Sanduga, who succumbed to three hack wounds, was declared dead on arrival at the Alfredo Marañon Sr. Memorial Hospital in Brgy. Bato, Sagay City, police investigations show.

Gutierrez said the couple had heated arguments before the hacking and the victim allegedly punched and tried to strangle his wife, who managed to get hold of a bolo, that she used in hacking him.

The suspect immediately surrendered to the barangay tanods, who turned her over to the Sagay police.

Gutierrez yesterday said that the family of the victim no longer seems interested to press charges against the suspect, as they had witnessed how she was maltreated by her husband, every time he was drunk.

She is now detained at the lockup cell of the Sagay City Police Station.*GPB

15 cops to get
commendation

Fifteen policemen led by Bacolod City Police Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operations Group head, Supt. Santiago Rapiz, will receive commendations from BCPO director, Senior Supt. Ricardo de la Paz, for the arrest of an alleged big-time drug peddler, and the confiscation of about P200,000 worth of shabu in a buy-bust operation in Brgy. Banago in the city, recently.

Aside from Rapiz, those to be commended are Police Officers 3 Rodel delos Reyes, Sherwin Rojas, Benjo Ballo-Allo, Police Officers 2 Alexander Bata-anon, Ana Rose Espolong, Paul John Canuday, Ferdimark Peñarroyo, Raymond Abaring, Ivan Inoperio, Tonny Hechanova, Dave Dapat, Fredd Vingno, Ramon Juablar and Police Officer 1 Geraldine Guinanao.

The arrest of Nemia Aguilar Jalando-on, 31, of Purok Sibucao, Brgy. Banago, Bacolod, considered as one of the two big-time local suppliers, has crippled the illegal drug trade in Bacolod, De la Paz said.

He said Jalando-on could dispose of at least P1 million worth of illegal drugs each week.

Charges for violation of Sections 5, 11 and 12 of Republic Act 9165, or the sale and possession of illegal drugs and paraphernalia, were filed against Jaland-on before the City Prosecutor’s Office Thursday.

Alleged courier Rolinda Tarog, 45, of Purok Punta Kapre, Brgy. 8, Bacolod, who was arrested while hiding under a blanket at the house of Jalando-on, was charged for illegal drug possession.

Police recovered a big heat-sealed sachet of suspected shabu from Tarog, and four big sachets and nine elongated sachets of the banned substance from Jalando-on, all valued at P160,000 to P200,000, and reportedly intended for sale during the 33rd MassKara Festival, police records show.*APN
