USLS wins back-to-back title
in NOPSSCEA men’s football

Unbeaten after two rounds of eliminations, the University of St. La Salle went on to claim a back-to-back title in NOPSSCEA 32nd Season men’s football tournament at the North Point Ayala pitch in Talisay City.

The Ceres-La Salle booteres were automatically proclaimed champion Saturday afternoon after beating the University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos, 4-1, in their last game in the second round of the eliminations, tournament manager Dennis Estaniel said.

It was UNO-R’s second loss to USLS after bowing to the Stingers, 3-0, in the first round.

La Salle also turned back twice the West Negros University men’s football team, 7-0, in the first round and 5-0 in the second round.

UNO-R finished second this year while WNU landed at third.

Scoring goals for Ceres-La Salle in Saturday’s game were Aldrin Dolino in the 30th minute, Paulo Sanchez in the 50th, Joel Bedia in the 56th, and J. Baguioro in the 90th.

“We’re simply grateful to the support given to the team by team manager Leo Rey Yanson who’s been there to provide the things our players need,” head coach Freddie “Nene” Lazarito.

The back-to-back championship in the NOPSSCEA he said is a result of an effective work-out plan they designed after having the full-backing of Yanson and the La Salle community.

“The varsity office and the school administrators have been very supportive too. Our victory belongs to the entire La Salle family,” Lazarito said.

With their mission in the NOPSSCEA successfully accomplished, he said their next target is to win in the Philippine University Games that USLS will be hosting on October 22-28.

Lazarito said they are also ready to compete in higher-level of competitions such as in the United Football League and the Under-22 national tournament.

“The support the team gets from both the private sector and the school is their motivation to win,” USLS college Varsity Sports Office director Malot Lozada said.

Having the back-to-back championship will give the team more confidence against the Manila schools and other football contenders in the UniGames, she added.

The members of the championship team are: Jurex Replentes (goalkeeper), Jimmy Malalo-an, Anthony Tongson, Florence Agraviador, Paolo Mendoza, J Baguioro, Joel Bedia, Angelo Abollan, Ralph Layumas, Aldrin Dolino, Paolo Sanchez, Norman Seloterio, Lope Mayagma, Marson De la Torre, John Margarse, Ronnel Yosores, Jericho Albino, Warren Bedia, Joshua Dutosme, and Rio Fegidero.

With Lazarito in the coaching staff are: Ramon Janeo, Ali Go, Michael Casas, Hemerson Campo, Lemuel Unabia.*NAB
