Around 3.042 million of the 3.27-million labor force in Western Visayas were employed during the second quarter of the year.
The region has a population of around 7.1 million based on the 2010 Census and Housing Population conducted by the National Statistics Office and 64.7 percent belong to the labor force or those whose ages are 15 years old and above.
The employment rate dropped, however, by around .07 percent compared to the 93.7 percent rate in January 2012, statistician Connie Virgula disclosed during Monday’s roundtable discussion held here as part of the National Statistics Month celebration.
However, the employment rate is higher by about .65 percent when compared with the 92.4 percent rate for the same period last year.
Raul Anlocotan, assistant director of the National Economic and Development Authority explained that the second quarter happens to be a lean month season, thus the drop in employment.*PNA
