President Benigno Aquino III has signed Proclamation No. 488 declaring October 26 as a regular holiday all over the country in observance of Eidul Adha or Feast of Sacrifice.
Presidential Spokesman Edwin Lacierda said Eidul Adha is one of the two greatest feasts of Islam.
The date of the festival is based on the declaration made by Saudi Arabia’s highest religious body.
October 19 remains an official holiday in Bacolod City, Mayor Evelio Leonardia also said yesterday.
The declaration of October 19 as a holiday to mark the city’s charter day and the proclamation has not been repealed. The Bacolod City government now marks charter day on June 18, the actual date of the signing and effectivity of the law creating it.
President Manuel L. Quezon signed Commonwealth Act No. 326, the Act Creating the City of Bacolod, on June 18, 1938, while Oct. 19, 1938 was the date of the inauguration of Alfredo Montelibano Sr. as the Mayor of Bacolod.*
