The Dumaguete City government will lead fisherfolk of Barangay Calindagan in a coastal clean-up drive next week in line with the 49th Fish Conservation Week celebration of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources-Department of Agriculture.
The activity is the city government’s participation in the BFAR celebration set October 15 to 19. City Administrator William Ablong, concurrent city agriculturist, has directed the City Environment and Natural Resources Office to lead fishermen’s associations in Calindagan in the clean-up on Oct. 15.
After the clean-up, the city government will distribute 65 fish traps, or “bobo”, to the seven fisheries associations in the barangay as part of its livelihood project to the marginalized sector.
The BFAR Negros Oriental, meanwhile, is reminding the public about the need to preserve and protect marine resources, that is a main source of livelihood for most of the coastal communities in the country.*JFP
