Around 600 farmers attended the Buglasan Farm Family Agri-Fair Wednesday and yesterday at the nursery compound of the Negros Oriental Provincial Agriculturists Office.

Highlights of the fair were the Farmers’ Congress, and an e-extension advocacy where farmers were encouraged to make use of the internet to further their knowledge and improve their skills, Nitz Bangay of the PAO said.

Booths of towns and cities in Negros Oriental also sold farm produce and organically-grown fruits and vegetables.

Gov. Roel Degamo, who opened the congress, said he is confident that organic farming will get a boost with the creation of the Negros Oriental Organic Agriculture Management Council.

Present during the opening of the fair and congress were Agriculture assistant regional technical director, Eduardo Alama, Regional Agricultural and Fisheries Council chief, Efren dela Cruz, Sangguniang Panlalawigan Board Member, Arnie Teves, who chairs the SP Committee on Agriculture, and Agricultural Training Institute Region 7 director, Carolyn May Daguio.

Other activities conducted were field demonstrations on handicrafts and livelihood programs, organic natural fertilizer formulation contest, and a competition among rural improvement clubs.*JFP
