BY GILBERT BAYORAN

Retired Air Force Col. Eduardo Kapunan, one of the principal suspects in the killing of Kilusang Mayo Uno labor leader Rolando Olalia, who surrendered Friday to the Army’s 3rd Infantry Division in Capiz, is now under the custody of the Army’s Intelligence Security Group in Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City.

Kapunan, a key leader of the Reform the Armed forces Movement, was escorted and presented during the weekend to Army chief Lt. Gen. Emmanuel Bautista, after being subjected to a medical check-up.

Bautista said Kapunan told him that he has a pending arrest warrant.

The Dumaguete City government will lead fisherfolk of Barangay Calindagan in a coastal clean-up drive next week in line with the 49th Fish Conservation Week celebration of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources-Department of Agriculture.

The activity is the city government’s participation in the BFAR celebration set October 15 to 19. City Administrator William Ablong, concurrent city agriculturist, has directed the City Environment and Natural Resources Office to lead fishermen’s associations in Calindagan in the clean-up on Oct. 15.

After the clean-up, the city government will distribute 65 fish traps, or “bobo”, to the seven fisheries associations in the barangay as part of its livelihood project to the marginalized sector.

BY JUDY F. PARTLOW

Around 600 farmers attended the Buglasan Farm Family Agri-Fair Wednesday and yesterday at the nursery compound of the Negros Oriental Provincial Agriculturists Office.

Highlights of the fair were the Farmers’ Congress, and an e-extension advocacy where farmers were encouraged to make use of the internet to further their knowledge and improve their skills, Nitz Bangay of the PAO said.

Booths of towns and cities in Negros Oriental also sold farm produce and organically-grown fruits and vegetables.
