Ayala to raise stake in
BPI to 44 percent

MANILA – Ayala Corp. said it has signed an agreement with DBS Bank Ltd. to acquire part of the common shares held by DBS in the Bank of the Philippine Islands.

Under the agreement, Ayala will purchase the BPI shares from DBS for a total of P25.6 billion. The acquisition will result in a 10.4 percent increase in Ayala’s ownership stake in BPI.

DBS has been a strategic investor in BPI since 1999 and is one of the bank’s major shareholders with a 20.3 percent effective interest.

PESO helps jobseekers
attract jobs, DOLE says

The Public Employment Service Offices mostly in local government units not only bridge the gap between jobs and jobseekers but help also jobseekers attract jobs, Department of Labor and Employment Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz said in a press release from DOLE.

Baldoz led the 12th National PESO Congress at the Baguio Convention Center in Baguio City that ends today, the press release said.

PESO managers and staff across all regions have gathered for the three-day congress with the theme “Tugon ng PESO: Wastong Trabaho at Agarang Serbisyo”, it also said.

POEA warns public
vs. web work scams

The Philippine Overseas Employment Administration is warning against employment scams in the internet after receiving numerous queries and complaints about unsolicited e-mails, websites and other job advertisements that offer employment overseas which were found to be fake, a government press release said.

POEA Administrator Hans Leo Cacdac said more applicants are now using the internet to find jobs and many have been victims of illegal recruiters and job scammers.

Cacdac The modus operandi used by scammers include developing bogus company websites or blogs, advertising in legitimate online job search companies, sending mass emails, or entering discussion boards or forums that are frequented by overseas Filipino workers to lure their victims.
