NegOr told to strengthen
Buglasan farm agri-fair

BY MARICAR ARANAS

Eduardo Alama, assistant regional technical director of the Department of Agriculture, challenged the Negros Oriental provincial government to continue and strengthen the Buglasan Farm Family Agri-Fair.

The province launched the fair that aims to promote organic agriculture towards sustainable growth in Negros Oriental on Thursday at the Provincial Agriculture compound in Barangay Piapi, Dumaguete City.

Alama said he supports the organic agriculture program of the province, and that the agri-fair provides farmers the chance to share their experiences with other organic farming advocates. It is also an opportunity to strengthen organized farmers associations, he added.

He said he was elated to witness the support of local government units in promoting organic agriculture in the province, and encouraged them to evaluate and certify farmers who are growing vegetables and crops organically.

Gov. Roel Degamo promised to support agriculture programs in order to attain food sustainability in the province. He said the provincial government has allocated a substantial amount for the improvement of food production in Negros Oriental. The province is now distributing organic fertilizers to farmer organizations, he added.*MA
