Ricefield overseer shot dead

Old grudges may have triggered the brutal killing of a ricefield overseer Thursday in Sitio Sinco, Brgy. Gawahon, Victorias City, Negros Occidental, Supt. Alexander Muñoz, Victorias police chief, said yesterday.

Muñoz said the victim, identified as Rolando Casiple, 46, was shot in the head, left knee and arms, by an unidentified man believed to have used a shotgun.

Four empty cartridges of a 12-gauge shotgun were recovered at the crime scene.

The body of Casiple was found in a ricefield owned by Ildefonso Jeroche at about 8 a.m. Thursday, an hour after residents in the area heard successive shots, that they initially believed to have come from bird hunters.

Before the incident, Muñoz said the victim reportedly threatened with a gun a member of the Bantay Bukid Brigade.*GPB

Three arrested
for illegal drugs

Three more suspected drug personalities in the cities of Victorias, Silay and Tallisay, Negros Occidental, were arrested, and suspected shabu and dried marijuana leaves were confiscated from them, records of the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office show.

Police Supt. Joseph Thomas Martir reported yesterday the arrest of Rosendo de los Santos, 51, “alias Endong”, during a buy-bust operation in Brgy. Zone 3, Talisay City, that yielded suspected dried marijuana leaves and 11 marijuana cigarets.

De los Santos is now detained at the Talisay City police lockup cell.

A day earlier, a certain Cesar Ian Segura, 35, was also arrested by the police in another buy-bust operation in Hacienda Maquina, Brgy. Rizal, Silay City.

Supt. Rosauro Francisco, Silay police chief, said the arrest of Segura also yielded four sachets of suspected shabu, P1,876 in cash believed to be proceeds from the sale of prohibited drugs, and P300 in marked money.

On the same day, policemen also apprehended Bunch Hinolan Jarder, 35, at Lopez Subdivision in Brgy. 6, Victorias City, by virtue of an arrest warrant issued by Judge Evelyn Arsenio, for violation of Presidential Decree 1602, or illegal gambling.

Supt. Alexander Muñoz, Victorias police chief, yesterday said the arrest of Jarder also yielded suspected shabu, estimated to have a market value of P10,000, paraphernalia, two cellular phones and P286 in cash.

Muñoz said that Jarder, who was previously detained for a case of child abuse, has been listed also among the drug personalities operating in Victorias City.

Arsenio has recommended P16,000 as bail for Jarder, in connection with the complaint for violation of PD 1602 filed against him.*GPB

BCPO on alert despite
‘peaceful’ MassKara

The Bacolod City Police Office remains on red alert even if the first 12 days of the MassKara Festival have been peaceful, BCPO director Senior Supt. Ricardo de la Paz said yesterday.

De la Paz said that no major incidents occurred related to the MassKara celebrations but police operatives are not putting their guard down.

“We are intensifying our surveillance and using our Special Operations Group and intelligence operatives for heightened monitoring, especially during the MassKara highlights next week,” he added.

Augmentation teams from the Regional Public Safety Management Battalion, Negros Occidental Provincial Police Office, and police trainees will also arrive next week, he said.

De la Paz said that more policemen will be deployed in strategic places, especially at the Bacolod public plaza, Lacson Street and other activity venues to ensure the safety and protection of residents and visitors. Traffic enforcers will also have specific assignments during the street parade to minimize congestion, he added.

He said he has assigned Supt. Joseph Bayan, deputy city director for administration, and Supt. Alexander Ermeo, deputy director for operations, to supervise safety and order at the public plaza and Lacson Street, respectively.*LTG
