Bacolod ready for UniGames;
12 playing venues identified

It’s all systems go for the 17th Sandugo-University Games in Bacolod City on October 22-28 with host University of St. La Salle leading the list of playing venues identified by the organizers.

UniGames president Roger Banzuela said that with 24 teams seeing action in men’s basketball and 12 in the women’s side, games will be played at the USLS Coliseum and the West Negros University Gym.

He said a third venue, the Natalio G. Velez Multi-purpose Gym, might be added to the list in case both the USLS and WNU Gym will be overbooked.

Chess competition will be held at the Santuario de La Salle in USLS, while venue for the football games will be at the North Point Ayala in Talisay City, USLS, and the Panaad Stadium. Alternative venues are Bago City football pitch and the Bacolod City National High School field.

All lawn tennis games will be played at the USLS tennis court, while swimming competition will be held at the La Salle pool.

With 26 men’s teams and 24 women’s squad confirming their entries in volleyball, Banzuela said they will hold the games at the USLS Covered Courts and the Negros Occidental Multi-Purpose Activity Center.

Beach volleyball games will also be held at USLS.

Athletics events will be held at the Panaad Stadium after the rehabilitation works at the USLS oval tracks got delayed due to bad weather condition.

Badminton competition will be held at the Pohang Center, while karatedo will be staged at the 2nd level of Robinsons Place.

University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos will host the sepak takraw, while Lopue’s Mandalagan was identified as the venue for table tennis, and the Riverside Covered Court for taekwondo.

Banzuela said they are expecting at least 1,500 athletes, coaches, and team officials, 286 technical officials, and 110 tournament personnel to converge in Bacolod City during the weeklong competition.

Opening ceremonies has been set on October 22, 6 p.m. at the USLS Coliseum.*NAB
