SP: Check safety
of carnival rides

BY CHRYSEE SAMILLANO

A resolution requesting the City Mayor to direct the City Engineer’s Office, Public Safety Office and Silver MassKara Festival Committee to conduct safety inspection on the facilities of all carnival rides at the SM grounds at the Reclamation Area during the MassKara Festival in Bacolod City, was approved by the Bacolod Sangguniang Panlungsod Wednesday.

Authored by Councilor Catalino Alisbo, the resolution said that there are carnival rides that accommodate both minor children, as well as adults during the MassKara Festival activities from October 1 to 22,

It said these facilities should be inspected by the CEO and PSO to safeguard the riding public, especially minor children and avoid untoward incidents.

The SP also approved another resolution requesting the Bacolod Traffic Authority, through the City Mayor, to strictly implement and enforce City Ordinance 84 Series of 1993 that amends C.O. 2115 of 1970, which prohibits smoking in publicutility motor vehicles during transit.

Also authored by Alisbo, the resolution said drivers and passengers smoking inside public utility motor vehicle during transit has become rampant and a major source of air pollution that is hazardous to the health of the riding public.

It said that, under the ordinance, public utility vehicle owners who fail to place a “no smoking” sign inside their motor vehicle should be held responsible for the violation.

A driver who fails to call the attention of a smoking passenger/s inside the public vehicle will be meted a fine and penalty under the ordinance, the resolution added.*CGS
