Kako denies
rumors of Danding link

BY CARLA GOMEZ

Former Rep. Jose Carlos “Kako” Lacson yesterday laughed off rumors that he was fielded by Ambassador Eduardo “Danding” Cojuangco to run for congressman of the third district of Negros Occidental against Rep. Alfredo Abelardo Benitez.

The rumor circulating is that the ambassador is allegedly not pleased with Benitez even if the latter has committed the Liberal Party’s support for Nationalist People’s Coalition gubernatorial bet Vice Governor Genaro Alvarez Jr.

But Lacson denied the rumors, saying he is running on his own without any alliance with any candidate for governor, board member, or mayor.

“My only hope is in the people of the third district of Negros Occidental,” he added.

Lacson said he knows Cojuangco, he does not play coy with anyone. It is not in Cojuangco’s nature to tell someone he is for him and support someone else, Lacson said. The ambassador is for you or not for you, he said.

Those who have doubts about who is being supported should ask the ambassador and Alvarez directly, Lacson said.

First, there was a rumor that he was paid P50 million not to run for congressman of the third district of Negros Occidental, and now it is that Cojuangco gave him P50 million to run for congressman of the third district, Lacson said, adding that he does not know who is spreading such stories.*CPG
