Free wheelchairs offered

The Bacolod City government, in cooperation with Dr. Luisa Santos and in special coordination with Dr. Mark Singson, will give customized wheelchairs to qualified applicants who are advised to go to the Bacolod City Government Center on October 25, Consuelo Yaun, DSSD Social Officer IV, said, a City Hall press release said.

Singson, a native of Negros Occidental now residing in the US, and the Church of Latter Day Saints will be the donor of the wheelchairs for recipients in Bacolod, Bago and Talisay cities. Recipients must have their measurements taken so the chairs will conform to their individual bodies in order to protect their spinal chords, Yaun said.

Santos is connected with De la Salle in Dasmariñas, Cavite and she will bring doctors from DLSU, who will be billeted at the Planta Centro Hotel, courtesy of Bacolod Mayor Evelio Leonardia.

Individuals aged 6 to below 60 years will be accommodated to enable them to integrate into the community as productive citizens, rather than be dormant and immobile in their residences, Yaun also said.

These wheelchairs will be given for free and are expected to be delivered in two to three months, she added.*
