The warden and three jail guards of the Tanjay District Jail in Negros Oriental have been relieved from their posts by the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology, after the escape of a detainee two weeks ago.

BJMP provincial administrator, Jail Chief Insp. Rosalinda Malahay, identified those relieved as Insp. Giovanni Gorospe, the warden, Senior Jail Officer 2 Fernando Villaflor, and Jail Officers 1 Peter Estrellanes and Archie Sayon.

Malahay said they were relieved under the one-strike policy of the Bureau, and are detained at the BJMP provincial office pending results of the investigation on the escape on Oct. 2, 2012, of Bannie Romano, “alias Bonie”, 27, who is facing homicide and attempted rape charges before the Regional Trial Court Branch 45 in Bais City.

The BJMP has also offered a P5,000 reward for the recapture of Romano, who was last sighted at the boundary of Bahian and Pal-ew in Tanjay City.

Meanwhile, Rodrigo Enmenzo, 64, of Bacong, Negros Oriental, was nabbed recently at his house by a joint team from the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group, the Bacong and Dumaguete police, by virtue of an arrest warrant for child abuse charges.

The warrant was issued by Regional Trial Court Branch 31 Judge Ma. Mercedita Sarsaba, who set his bail at P200,000.*JG/JFP
