Negros Comelec readies list
of nuisance bets for purging
BY CARLA GOMEZ

The Commission on Elections in Negros Occidental has been directed to submit a list of those considered as nuisance candidates for possible purging by the COMELEC national office after review.

Provincial Elections Supervisor Jessie Suarez said yesterday that, on the provincial level, he is considering the inclusion of three to four candidates, who filed their Certificates of Candidacy for provincial board and congressional seats, in the list of nuisance candidates that he will submit to their head office.

He has also given the election officers in the towns and cities of Negros Occidental until noon today to submit their lists of nuisance candidates for submission to the COMELEC in Manila, Suarez added.moremoremore

‘Julius Sayson withdraws,
but appearance needed'
BY CHRYSEE SAMILLANO

Bacolod mayoralty candidate Julius Sayson has filed his statement of withdrawal before the Commission on Elections in Manila claiming that he has received death threats.

Bacolod Election Officer Mavil Majarucon-Sia said she received a copy of Sayson's statement of withdrawal, that was sent through LBC, at about 10 a.m. yesterday.

Sayson reportedly went to Manila to file his statement of withdrawal, she said.

However, COMELEC Manila refused to accept it because, according to a COMELEC Resolution, withdrawal should be filed in the same office where a candidate filed his or her certificate of candidacy, she said.moremoremore

Electric MassKara all set
BY CHRYSEE SAMILLANO

Seven floats from different parts of Bacolod City will converge at the Tourism Strip at Lacson Street starting 7 p.m. on Friday and will transform the whole place into a stage during the first night of the Electric MassKara with the participation of the giant puppets of La Consolacion College as an added attraction.

Festival director Eli Francis Tajanlangit yesterday said the new event is called “Pagkilita-ay,Pakita-ay” when translated means “We meet and show off.”

“The idea is to showcase how Bacolod is, where the seas and mountains meet, thus, the lighted floats will carry figures and forms, creatures and characters from the seas on one hand and the mountains on the other,” he said.moremoremore
