Valencia town in Negros Oriental celebrated its fiesta with the awarding of outstanding Valencianons, and the launching of its anti-smoking program recently.
The awardees were institutions and organization that have contributed to the development of the town, like the Lopez Foundation Inc., that donated a P24 million health center facility; the Energy Development Corporation, for the construction and rehabilitation of infrastructure facilities damaged during tropical storm “Sendong”; and the Ating Koop Partylist, for donating a P3 million multi-purpose center that will serve as venue in the skills training of farmers.
After the awarding rites, the town government launched its anti-smoking campaign, with director Asuncion Anden of the Department of Health Region 7 as keynote speaker.
Anden lauded the town officials for heeding the call to promote healthy lifestyles by coming up with an ordinance that will regulate the sale of cigarets and tobaccos.
She encouraged Valencianons to support the DOH signature campaign that seeks the passage of the proposed sin tax bill.
The activity, held at the town plaza, was participated in by the academe, civic and church organizations, and the barangays of Valencia.*MA
