MassKara table tennis
tilt opens today

Advance matches in the MassKara Age Group and Open Table Tennis Tournament will start today at 5 p.m. at the LOPTTA Table Tennis Center, Lopue's San Sebastian Annex Building in Bacolod City.

LOPTTA president Leonito Lopue, said the formal opening ceremony of the tournament will be on Oct. 20, followed by the elimination round in the age group competition.

Up for grabs are top honors in 8 and under boys and girls, 10 and under boys and girls, 12 and under boys and girls, men's open, women's open, and 50 and Up.

The tournament, he said, aims to promote table tennis in Negros by gathering top paddlers in the country and to discover future talents in the sport.

“Through the years of rigid training in the club and exposure to different tournaments sponsored by Lopue's, the association was able to breed the future of Philippines Table Tennis players,” Lopue said.

LOPTTA players John Paul Gubaton and John Michael Castro, currently playing in the national boys' junior team, and Emy Rose Daeland Rose Jean Fadol who are in the national girl's junior team, are all products of LOPTTA training, Lopue added.

The four young paddlers from Negros Occidental joined the Philippine team that represented the country in the 8th South East Asia Table Tennis Table Tennis Championships 2012 held in Vietiane, Laos , recently.

“LOPTTA has also produced a number one female player in the country, Marell Lagunday in 2004,” Lopue said.*NAB
