BY MARICAR ARANAS

A 130 kilometer mountain trail endurocross rally competition is expected to draw hundreds of bikers and motorcycle enthusiasts from different parts of the country who will participate in the 3rd Ironman Buglasan Endurocross rally competition on Oct. 20 in Dumaguete City.

The contest is sponsored by former Finance secretary Margarito Teves and organized by Dumaguete City Councilor Dan Teves-Leon, a motorbike enthusiast. The race will begin in Tayasan town and will end in Bayawan City in Negros Oriental.

The race will be according to time trial format that will determine the travel time of each rider. The rider having the least travel time will win. Leon said the riders will encounter all kinds of road condition while they traverse the mountain barangays to at least eight local government units, with at least four hours estimated time travel.

The race trail will pass through the mountain barangays of Tayasan, Ayungon, Bindoy, Manjuyod, Mabinay, Bais City, Tanjay City and Bayawan City.

There are seven categories for the Ironman Endurocross rally – the production, power endure, dirt bikes, local endure, all terrain vehicle, Pantra, or “pantrabaho” motorcycle, known locally as “habal-habal”.

All riders are encouraged to wear the standard protective gear before joining the race. They are also reminded to bring their own tools, water and personal provisions.

A registration fee of P200 for every rider is required for those who join the race. Leon added that all riders who can finish the race will have a personalized T-shirt with their picture as giveaways. The winners will receive a substantial amount from Gary Teves.

Leon said there are eight stations specifically located along the race trail which will record and monitor the number of riders. All riders are obliged to report to every station to assure that they have completed the race.

A medical team from Bayawan City will be on standby, while the race is ongoing to provide medical assistance.*MA
