The West Negros University Mustangs are advancing to the Visayas-Mindanao zonals of the Philippine Collegiate Champions League next month after beating the University of Iloilo Wildcats, 89-87, in the regional championship in Dumaguete City, Tuesday night.
Representing the Bacolod area in the league, the Mustangs earlier beat Ormoc champion Western Leyte College, 75-67, in the elimination.
The Wildcats, on the other hand, beat Bohol Institute Technology en route to the final showdown against WNU.
Following their victory in Dumaguete, the Mustangs are set to start with their preparations for the 17th Sandugo-University Games that will open at the USLS Coliseum on Monday.
The WNU squad finished first runner-up in Roxas City last year after bowing to the Ateneo de Manila University in the finals.
Also expected to spice up the competition in UniGames men’s basketball are three other top teams from UAAP, first runner-up University of Sto. Tomas, National Universtiy and the University of the East.*NAB
