Julius out if no show at Comelec
BY CHRYSEE SAMILLANO

The name of Bacolod mayoralty candidate Julius Sayson will be removed from the list of candidates if he fails to appear at the preliminary conference at the Commission on Elections in Manila on Monday, Bacolod Comelec registrar Mavil Majarucon-Sia said yesterday.

Majarucon-Sia said the preliminary conference on the petition filed by mayoralty candidate Vice Mayor Jude Thaddeus Sayson against Julius Sayson will proceed at the First Division of the COMELEC in Manila on Monday despite the statement of withdrawal he filed.

The Vice Mayor filed a petition asking COMELEC to declare Julius a nuisance candidate for mayor.

He said he believes that the statement of withdrawal filed by Julius will strengthen his petition seeking his disqualification.

In his statement of withdrawal, Julius claimed that he has received death threats.

Majarucon-Sia said the statement of withdrawal of Julius cannot be considered valid since he has to file it personally at the COMELEC Office in Bacolod where he filed his certificate of candidacy.

If he is, indeed, in Manila, the person he will send to fill up the withdrawal form for him should have a special power of attorney, she said,.

Majarucon-Sia said they received the statement of withdrawal through LBC Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Majarucon-Sia also said the registration of voters will continue on Friday although October 19 is a holiday in Bacolod City.

She said the registration of voters that started in May 2011 will end on October 31 and there will be no extensions.

Majarucon-Sia said they are open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. to accommodate new registration, transfers, correction and reactivation of records.*CGS
