BY MARICAR ARANAS

Eight local government units will participate in the Buglasan Festival of Festivals competition today, in line with the 10-day celebration of the Negros Oriental fiesta.

Gov. Roel Degamo will open the festival with a special offering before the start of the competition, that will be participated in by the Yag-yag festival delegates of Sibulan, Tawo-tawo of Bayawan City, Sandurot of Dumaguete City, Tanjay's Saulog Festival, Sipong of Bais City, Siaton's Inagta Festival, Pakol of Sta. Catalina, and the Hambabalud Fest of Jimalalud.

The showdown of festivals will start 8 a.m. at the Governor Lamberto Macias Sports and Cultural Complex, and the street dancing at 2 p.m. at the main thoroughfares of Dumaguete City.

Provincial Tourism Officer Myla Abellana called on spectators to come before the start of the competition to avoid congestion, and to ensure that they bring enough water and provisions with them.

She said the street parade will end at the Freedom Park for the selection of the Buglasan King and Queen, and the announcement of competition winners.

Earlier, President Benigno Aquino III declared today a special non-working day in Negros Oriental in celebration of the Buglasan Festival, and to give Negrenses the opportunity to fully celebrate and participate in various activities lined up for the revelry.*MA
