Erring cops will be dismissed
if evidence sufficient – Cruz

BY ADRIAN NEMES III

The three policemen in Negros Occidental and Bacolod City, who were recently allegedly involved in the illegal drugs trade and illegal gun possession, should be dismissed if there are sufficient evidences against them, Police Regional Office-6 Director Chief Supt. Agrimero Cruz said Thursday.

“There is no place in the Philippine National Police for erring policemen and they should be treated like ordinary criminals”, Cruz said.

Police Officer 2 Rex Capapas and Police Officer 1 Melchor Salcedo, both members of the 3rd Maneuver Company of 6th RPSB stationed in Brgy. E. Lopez, Silay City, were subjected to drug testing, Tuesday after an arrested suspect, Rodrigo de la Cruz, a trisikad driver, claimed that they supplied him with shabu to sell.

The two cops tested negative for drugs.

“Not only police non-commissioned officers in Western Visayas should be investigated for possible drug links but high-ranking policemen as well”, Cruz also said.

As to the case of Police Officer 1 Roldan Villa, who was arrested by his colleagues at the Bacolod Public Plaza for alleged possession of an unlicensed firearm Saturday last week, Cruz said, he has ordered City Police Director Senior Supt. Ricardo de la Paz to file administrative charges against the policeman.

Villa was charged for illegal possession of firearms before the Bacolod City Prosecutor’s Office Monday.

Villa, who is assigned at the Community Police Precinct at the Bacolod Government Center, was apprehended on the threat complaints of Raymund Bayer, 30, of Brgy. Banago. He was later found to have an unlicensed .45 caliber pistol with seven bullets in its magazine, police records showed.

Villa was also demoted after he was charged for grave misconduct by Chief Insp. Luisito Acebuche for allegedly aiding in the escape of a snatcher by texting the suspect sometime in 2009 when they were both assigned at Police Station 1.*APN
