8 gambling outfits defy PNP
BY GILBERT BAYORAN

Eight illegal gambling outfits have continued to defy the anti-illegal gambling operations of the police in Negros Occidental, despite the renewed campaign ordered by the Police Regional Office 6.

The gambling outfits have the codenames Target, Speed, Bullseye, Fronton, Selected Gold, Ontat, Unified, Cancha and Pointers, police records show.

The number of illegal gambling violators arrested in Negros Occidental had reached 123 as of Oct. 15, three months after Senior Supt. Milko Lirazan assumed as officer-in-charge of the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office, on July 18.

Majority of the arrested violators, who include six minors, were bet solicitors, while others were staff and employees of the illegal gambling outfits, police records also show.

The drive also resulted in the confiscation of P11,346 in alleged cash bets, 23 motorcycles, six tricycles and bicycles, 23 cellular phones and a KIA Pride car being used in the operations of the gambling outfits.

Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. had earlier ordered Lirazan to intensify the campaign against illegal gambling and the proliferation of prohibited drugs, especially in northern Negros.

A special task force was organized by NOPPO that will focus its efforts on illegal gambling operations in Negros Occidental.*GPB
