Board Member Emilio Yulo III yesterday said that, contrary to claims, he is not aware of any plan to reshuffle chairmanships of the committees at the Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Negros Occidental.
Reports have circulated that Yulo is being groomed to replace Board Member Salvador Escalante as chairman of the SP Committee on Finance and Appropriations.
When asked about it, Yulo, who was with Nacionalista Party senatorial aspirant Cynthia Villar during her visit to Talisay City yesterday, said “I have no idea”.
Escalante, who is among the allies of Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. in the SP, has chaired the Finance committee for several years now.
Yulo gave up the chairmanship of the SP Committee on Laws and Ordinances, after losing to his uncle, former Binalbagan Mayor Alejando Mirasol, in the special fifth district congressional election. It was given to Board Member Raul Rivera.
Asked again if he will accept an offer, if there is any, to chair the SP Committee on Finance, Yulo said “I will have to think about it”. He also said “it’s a decision to be made by a collegial body”.
As a matter of tradition and protocol ever since, the chairmanships of vital committees are given to those who are close to the executive department, he said.
