Julius Sayson
hearing set today

BY CHRYSEE SAMILLANO

The Commission on Elections First Division in Metro Manila will hear today the petition filed by mayoralty candidate Vice Mayor Jude Thaddeus Sayson asking that his namesake, Julius Sayson, be declared a nuisance candidate.

Crystal Vega, legal counsel of Vice Mayor Sayson of the Nationalist People’s Coalition-Grupo Progreso, said they will present documentary evidence in the preliminary hearing today to prove their claims that the other Sayson is a nuisance candidate and has no bona fide intention to run for the position he is seeking.

Vega said all the attached evidence that they have submitted will be supported by original documents which will be presented before the COMELEC.

She said the COMELEC will order their camp to file their position paper.

Vega said that since Julius Sayson did not file his answer to the petition, but instead filed his certificate of withdrawal, they will ask COMELEC to render a decision on the matter.

His failure to file the necessary answer meant that he had already waived his right, she said.

Vega said it is possible that Julius Sayson will appear at the hearing today.

She said the certificate of withdrawal filed by Julius will not affect the case since Julius did not submit it personally, therefore it was not considered by the COMELEC as a valid withdrawal. But they will use his withdrawal as documentary evidence, she added.*CGS
