DMLMHS students win
Prov’l Statistics Quiz

Students Mark Ian Mendoza, Athena Esona and Elaiza Joyce Pabon of the Doña Montserrat Lopez Memorial High School in Silay City topped the Provincial Statistics Quiz for secondary schools held recently at the O Hotel in Bacolod City, a press release from organizers said.

The competition was in line with the National Statistics Month celebration and was participated in by 25 public high schools in the province.

The other winners were the Negros Occidental HS in Bacolod City, second; Sagay NHS in Sagay City, third; Negros Occidental National Science HS in Victorias City, fourth; and Toboso NHS, fifth. They received cash prizes and certificates from Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr.

The board of judges was composed of Dean Felicidad Altalaguire and Jessamine Calma from the Colegio San Agustin-Bacolod, and Febe Quingco from the University of Negros Occidental–Recoletos, with Noeda Madamesila, also from CSA-B, as quizmaster, the press release added.*

Medical mission held
in Brgy. Mandalagan

Another outdoor medical health service was conducted recently at the Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Parish in Eroreco, Brgy. Mandalagan, by the Bacolod city government, under its Bacolod Initiative Nurturing Good program.

Around 420 residents availed of free urinalysis, ECG, FBS, Hematocrit, cholesterol and consultations with free medicines from Merck and Biofemme, while 300 children were fed by the Negros Bacolod Bakers Association and 200 eyeglasses were distributed by Sampaguita Lions Club president Dang Filasol, a press release from the city said.

The Red Cross and Red Cross Youth La Salle assisted in the registration of patients in the activity attended by Mayor Evelio Leonardia and Vice Mayor Jude Thaddeus Sayson, Councilor Em Ang, Andy Leonardia, Bart Orola, Negros Bacolod Bakers Association president Virgie Chua, Soroptimist International Bacolod Chapter president Melba Tan, and City Health Office doctors Babylin Drilon, Esteban and Grace Tan, the press release added.*

Council elects officers

The Student Council of the Recoletos de Bacolod Graduate School elected its new set of officers for 2012–2013, recently, its press release said.

They are Darwin Destacamento, president; Bro. Lawrence Jolly Agustin, vice president; Bea Emma Bachinela, secretary; Rieza Henarez, treasurer; and Analyn Cadungon. Willie Tortosa, Marian Borres and Iris Sulat were elected members of the board of directors, while the program chairmen were taken in as advisers of the Council, the press release also said.

Carlos Legaspi Jr. of the UNO-R DSA, told the group to plan activities and program for the second semester and to prepare the Council’s constitution and by-laws, the press release added.*
