set to compete in Iloilo

The city government of Bacolod is giving assistance to the 10-member deaf-mute basketball team that will see action in the 2nd Regional Basketball Tournament for the Deaf in Iloilo next year, a press release from the Bacolod City hall said.

The team, led by coach Christopher Ferraris paid a courtesy call on Mayor Evelio Leaonardia yesterday at the Bacolod City Government Center.

Ferraris said the squad was second runner-up in the 2009 edition of the tournament and hopes to land  in the top four again next year.

He also thanked Leonardia and the city officials from Bacolod who supported them in the tournament where they received P3,000 cash prize, a trophy and certificates, the press release said.

Ferraris said members of the team are employees of O' Hotel, Fortune Blue Crabs and Company, Welcome Home Foundation, and Coca-Cola, some of them working as volunteer teachers for the deaf-mutes, the press release added. *
