The owner of a chain of restaurants in many parts of the country was shot dead at about 8:50 p.m. Monday by a lone gunman at Sta. Catalina Street in downtown Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental.

Dumaguete Police officer-in-charge Insp. Eddie Oira identified the fatality as Aries Christopher Bejar Alvarez, 40, married, of Ecoville Subdivision, Barangay Talay, Dumaguete City. He died on arrival at the Holy Child Hospital from a lone gunshot wound in the chest.

Investigation shows that Alvarez, proprietor of Ka Waway Restaurant at Sta. Catalina Street, had just boarded his red Suzuki sedan that was parked across the restaurant at around 8:50 p.m. Monday, when the gunman came up and shot him pointblank.
