Clark Daniel Bautista exploded with 27 points, all from the three-point area as the University of Sto. Tomas Growling Tigers pounced on host University of St. La Salle Stingers, 115-71, to strengthen its bid for the men’s basketball crown in the 17th Sandugo-University Games at the USLS Coliseum yesterday.

It was UST’s third win after ripping John B. Lacson Memorial University, 97-70, and the Ateneo de Davao University, 101-79.

At the Po Hang Gym of Bacolod Tay Tung High School, defending champion Ateneo De Manila University cruised to its second win against Holy Cross of Davao College, 94-67.

14 gold medals up for grabs
as athletics starts in Panaad

The contest for supremacy in athletics begins today at the Panaad Park and Stadium with 14 gold medals at stake in the third day of the 17th Sandugo-University Games in Bacolod City.

Far Eastern University hopes to retain its overall title in both men and women’s athletics as the race for gold, silver, and bronze opens with the men and women’s long jump at 8 a.m., simultaneous with men and women’s discus throw.

University of St. La Salle golden thrower Mikah de Oro is setting her eyes on another UniGames gold in women’s shot put, while FEU runners are keen on defending their crown.

Bacolod special athletes
set to compete in Iloilo

The city government of Bacolod is giving assistance to the 10-member deaf-mute basketball team that will see action in the 2nd Regional Basketball Tournament for the Deaf in Iloilo next year, a press release from the Bacolod City hall said.

The team, led by coach Christopher Ferraris paid a courtesy call on Mayor Evelio Leaonardia yesterday at the Bacolod City Government Center.

Ferraris said the squad was second runner-up in the 2009 edition of the tournament and hopes to land  in the top four again next year.
