Akbayan legitimate,
supporters say

BY LISA GAPAC

The supporters of Akbayan Citizen’s Coalition Party in Bacolod City and Negros Occidental yesterday submitted their letter of support for the partylist group addressed to COMELEC Manila, through Bacolod Elections Officer Mavil Majarucon-Sia, Nico Solmayor, its regional political officer, said.

The letter said that Akbayan is a legitimate party and that it represents the marginalized sectors, Solmayor said, adding that they also cited the bills co-authored by their former Rep. Risa Hontiveros, the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program Extension with Returns and the Cheaper Medicines Bill.

The disqualification of Akbayan came up when the Anakbayan Partylist group claimed that many of its members are taking government positions and do not represent the marginalized sectors.*LTG
