2,000 more jobs seen with
SM City expansion

The expansion of its mall at the reclamation area by SM Prime Holdings Inc. is progressing with phase 1 targeted for completion in the first semester 2013, with its anchor store at the north building set to relocate to the new three-storey building, a press release from the mall said.

Once fully completed and leasable areas have been occupied, the new building will benefit 2,000 people through new jobs, it added.

With more space to occupy, shoppers can expect the availability of a wider range of practical and fashionable items, the press release said.

The new multi-floor store will have wider sections and display areas, for more convenient shopping it added.

Expansion of the mall will move on immediately to phase two after the department store building has been completed.

Phase two will go into full swing in 2013, where major changes will happen to the current mall's set up.

SM Prime has allocated P1.4 billion to the two-phase expansion project, the press release said.

Hans Sy, SM Prime's president said that the expansion is the company's way of “paying tribute to the residents of Bacolod City and nearby areas.”

SM Prime aims to give back to the city in terms of investment and employment generation, tax remittances, and strengthening relations with various communities, the press release said.*
