A neophyte police officer was stabbed dead yesterday by a teenager, who later surrendered to the police, in Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental.
Police Officer 1 Jun Eric Moguies, a member of the 6 th Regional Public Safety Battalion, succumbed to multiple stab wounds, while being treated at the Gumercindo Yap Memorial Hospital in Kabankalan City, police said.
The suspect, identified as Steven Ganza, 18, surrendered to SPO1 Samuel Villafuerte, PO2 Ricky Toledo and PO1 Efren Gaspillo, through the effort of retired SPO4 Arnold Junsay, about 11 hours later.
Investigations by the Kabankalan police show that Moguies accosted Ganza and his companions, who were hanging out at a store, at corner Guanzon-Rizal streets, Brgy. 7, Kabankalan City, at about 1:50 a.m. yesterday
Supt. Calixto Mabugat, Kabankalan police chief, yesterday said a heated argument between the police officer and the suspect, led to the stabbing.
Mabugat said the suspect claimed he was the only one involved in the stabbing of Moguies, as his companions had already left.
The .45 caliber pistol of the slain police officer, however, was not taken by the suspect, but the knife allegedly used in the stabbing could not be found.
Moguies, a resident of Kabankalan City, entered the police service in 2010, police records show.* GPB
