Banago man meted life
for selling shabu to cops

A resident of Barangay Banago in Bacolod City was sentenced to life imprisonment yesterday for the sale of one sachet of shabu for P100 to policemen.

Judge Edgar Garvilles, of Bacolod Regional Trial Court Branch 47, found Joel Dumago Agbas of Purok Rosas Pandan, Sitio Sibucao, Barangay Banago, guilty beyond reasonable doubt for violating Republic Act 9165 for the sale of dangerous drugs, and sentenced him to suffer life imprisonment and pay a P500,000 fine.

The one sachet of shabu weighing .05 gram was ordered turned over to the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency for destruction, while Agbas was committed to the national penitentiary for service of his sentence.

Road repairs causing traffic

At last.

Repairs are now going on at the “abortion highway” in Brgy. Sum-ag, Bacolod City, and a temporary rerouting scheme will be implemented there, Traffic Management Unit head, Chief Insp. Luisito Acebuche, said yesterday.

This is because the ongoing work on the Araneta highway is causing a traffic gridlock at the southern portion of Bacolod City.

Acebuche said vehicles may use Villarosa Street as alternative route to decongest traffic at the Araneta highway especially during rush hours.

Bacolod City was chosen by the Juvenile Justice and Welfare Council (JJWC) as one of the few model local areas for the pilot implementation of the Localization of the Comprehensive National Juvenile Intervention Program, for its strong commitment to the welfare of children and the youth.

Bacolod Mayor Evelio Leonardia is scheduled to sign the covering Memorandum of Agreement with Interior and Local Government Secretary Mar Roxas and Social Welfare and Development Secretary Dinky Soliman, a press release from the City Hall said.

The invitation to participate in the program was sent to Leonardia by DILG Region 6 Director Evelyn Trompeta last month.
