The legal counsel of Bacolod Rep. Anthony Golez, Jr. yesterday said they have requested the National Bureau of Investigation to investigate the source of an email that spread a photo of a couple kissing who look like the solon and a woman who is not his wife.
Agnes Maranan said the photo was fake and they are working closely with the NBI to try to complete the investigation at the soonest possible time, during a press conference at the NBI Office yesterday.
The pictures were circulated in Bacolod City shortly after the estranged wife of Golez, Princess Soraya, and a sheriff from Quezon City, armed with a court order, had padlocked their conjugal residence at Capitolville Subdivision.
Maranan said the NBI has the facility and training to detect who are those are responsible for the act.
Golez said this is a form of cybercrime so those responsible should be made answerable. If that can happen to him, it can happen to anybody.
Now it is easy to determine who are distributing those photos to intimidate him and he believes the move was politically motivated, he added.
The politics in Bacolod has gone down below the belt, Golez said. He believes the Cybercrime Prevention Act that was recently passed by Congress can help those who are being victimized through the internet.
Golez is a member of the Committee on Information and Communications Technology.
Agent Ronald Jun Aguto of NBI Manila said that when they received the complaint of Golez, they conducted an investigation and that they have good leads to pursue.
Golez said the NBI will be setting up a division that will be capable in protecting Filipinos against crimes in the internet.
The solon said he has allocated a portion of his Priority Assistance Development Fund for the improvement of the NBI Bacolod Office, which he said does not only serve Bacolod City but also caters to the needs of nearby locations.
“I also am encouraging other congressmen from Negros Occidental to allocate a portion of their PDAF to improve the facilities and equipment of the NBI Bacolod City Office,” Golez said.
NBI Bacolod head Ferdinand Lavin said they thank Golez for the improvement of the office, during the press conference.
He said they have good government leaders who saw that the office is already dilapidated. This was non-functional before but they were able to covert it into something functional that would benefit the clearance applicants from Bacolod and the whole of Negros, he added.*CGS
