MBCCI promotes Negros

LA VIDA NEGRENSE

Bacolod City Mayor Bing Leonardia joined the Negros delegation in promoting Bacolod City and Negros Occidental to various business sectors throughout the country during the 38th Philippine Business Conference and Expo held recently at the historic Manila Hotel.

Spearheading the Negros delegation was Metro Bacolod Chamber of Commerce and Industry president, Frank Carbon; PCCI regional governor, Bobby Montelibano, and the Island Living Channel, chaired by yours truly.

President Benigno Aquino III was the guest of honor and keynote speaker during the three-day conference that was attended by business delegations from Russia, Turkey, Oman, Myanmar, Sir Lanka and Iraq, who showed interests in pursuing investment opportunities in agribusiness, mining, tourism, business process outsourcing and renewable energy.

PCCI president Miguel Varela said the conference achieved its goal of making the Philippines an investment destination with the Aquino administration’s commitment to implement transparency and accountability in all its transactions. He added the Philippines is now in the international market limelight, and it is the goal of the Chamber to sustain the momentum.

PCCI officers also signed a memorandum of understanding with the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry, for a regular exchange of business delegations between the Philippines and Oman. The MOU aims to strengthen PCCI’s alliance with influential business groups belonging to the Gulf Cooperation Council, whose member-countries include the Kingdom of Bahrain, Kuwait, Sultanate of Oman, Qatar, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.*

Dinner for a cause conducted

About 300 members and officers of the Y’s Men’s Club attended the dinner for a cause held at the Bacolod Government Center recently, where they were welcomed by Mayor Evelio Leonardia, a press release from the city said.

Leonardia said the Club is not as big as Lions or Rotary clubs but it has gone international and gave him the opportunity to meet people. He was not yet a politician when he joined the club, he said, but his orientation and exposure eventually made him one, the press release also said.

He said the BGC, worth around P349 million, is also the home of Y’s Men’s, and he considers it as one of his accomplishments as a member of the Club.

Leonardia also attended the exit conference on the National Validation for the Most Child Friendly City at the MassKara Hall of the Government Center, with DSSD officer-in-charge Sally Abelarde, Department of Education assistant superintendent, Clarissa Zamora and national validators Froilan Flores, Erlinda Aguila and Jasmin Tandigan.

He said he hopes that Bacolod, that was cited recently as “The Most Livable City in the country,” will be judged according to its record and performance, as it has been a consistent finalist in the annual contest, the press release added.*
