Robber kills jeep
driver in Bacolod
BY ADRIAN NEMES III

A slash on his neck and stab wounds on his abdomen caused the untimely death of a jeepney driver, who was also robbed, at about 7 p.m. Saturday at the Bacolod City reclamation area.

Bystanders found Ernesto Caminto, 40, of Georgina Subdivision, Brgy. Mandalagan, Bacolod lying inside his jeepney bathed in blood, and immediately informed the police, case investigator, Police Officer 2 Christopher Profeta, said.

Caminto was rushed to the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival, Profeta said.

Four hours later, the suspect, Joven Valencia, 25, of Purok Pine Tree in Brgy. Bata was arrested at his house after a trisikad driver told the police that he was the last person seen riding the jeepney of Caminto before he was found wounded, Profeta also said.

He said that, aside from the angle of robbery, they are also looking into the possibility that Valencia killed Caminto because he is blaming him for the firing of his father as a driver of Pads Lines.

Although Caminto’s wrist watch, P920 in cash and cellular phone were recovered from him, his wallet with an undetermined amount of cash was missing, police records showed.

The bladed weapon used in stabbing Caminto was seized from Valencia, while an improvised sheath for bladed weapon was recovered in Caminto’s jeepney, police records also showed.

Edmundo Caminto, the victim’s nephew, told the DAILY STAR that they want Valencia to languish in jail because of what he did to his uncle.

He said the last time he saw his uncle alive was last week when he visited his father at the hospital.*APN
