200 photographers
join Canon contest

Canon Marketing Philippines recently held a Canon Photo Marathon in Bacolod City where about 200 amateur and professional photographers and Canon users from Dumaguete, Cebu, Bohol, Tagbilaran, Ormoc and Manila, participated.

Ryan Esguerra, head of operations Visayas Region, said Canon’s presence is felt all over the world and that in Asia, the Philippines is one of the promising places for photography as Filipinos love to take pictures.

They have, therefore launched a campaign of making the Philippines a “Canon image nation," he said.

Esguerra said the staging of the Canon Photo marathon held here recently was a momentous event that has been happening yearly and they were very happy that Bacolod had been chosen for the contest. This was the most awaited annual event for Canon DSLR, point-and-shoot and camcorder users, he also said.

This Canon Photo marathon is the biggest and largest on-the-spot photo contest  dedicated for their customers  who have been loyal to the Canon brand, Esguerra said.

Canon president and CEO Alan Chng said they sell most of their high-end lenses  in Negros than in any provinces in the country since there are so many photo enthusiasts here.

“Seeing a multitude of Canon advocates using our products to capture the beautiful parts of our country not only shows rapid spread of Photo marathon fever, but also triggers our desire to continue delighting our customers,” he said.

Chng said Bacolod was chosen because of the beautiful sights and tourism.
“Bacolod is known as the City of Smiles so it comes with experience,” he said.

"We want them to choose a city that will combine not only the tourist spots but also the experience of doing the marathon event," he added.

In the National Leg, last year, they made history as they had about 2,000 participants in the national competition, Chng added.*CGS
