IP symposium, clean-up held

A symposium on Mining Executive Order 79 and the Rules of Engagement of the Armed Forces of the Philippines was held at the Negros Oriental Convention Center in Dumaguete City recently, a military press release said.

The activity, attended by around 115 members of indigenous peoples communities from Basay, Bayawan and Bais, was organized by the Negros Oriental provincial government in partnership with the National Commission on Indigenous People, the PENRO, ONCAN and the Army’s 302nd Brigade and 79th Infantry Battalion.

Meanwhile, 30 military personnel and CAFGUs of the 302nd Brigade participated in the clean-up drive at the shorelines of barangays Looc and Okiot in Bais yesterday.

The activity was supported by the Bais City employees and officials, the Community Environment and Natural Resources Office, students of the Negros Oriental State University, and other stakeholders, the press release also said.

The Brigade also participated in the coastal clean-up drive initiated by the Dumaguete-based Philippine Coast Guard Auxiliary and the Negros Oriental High School Batch 94’ at the shorelines of Rizal Boulevard to Barangay Calindagan in Dumaguete City recently, the press release added.*
