4 nabbed for
illegal gambling

BY JUDY F. PARTLOW

Four suspects, three of them minors, were arrested by the Negros Oriental Provincial Police Office-Special Operations Group in an anti-illegal gambling operation in Canlaon City recently.

NOPPO-SOG head, Senior Insp. Kenneth Paul Albutra, said the minors, all 17 years old, and Edward Vergara, 27, of Barangay Mabigo, Canlaon City, were nabbed at around 8 p.m. Sunday in Barangay Mabigo, Canlaon.

Seized from the suspects were 40 pieces of tally sheets, P5,395 in cash believed to be proceeds from the illegal numbers’ game called “swertres”, P200 in bet money, two tipsters, calculators, staplers and office supplies.

PNP Region 7 director, Chief Supt. Marcelo Garbo, had earlier issued a twin directive on the “no-take” and “zero illegal gambling” targets for all areas in Central Visayas.

Any police chief or high ranking police official found to be coddling illegal gambling operators will immediately be relieved from his or her post, he said.*JFP
