‘No more issuance
of PUJ franchises'

The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board is no longer accepting new franchise applications for public utility jeeps in Bacolod City but they are giving special permits to apprehended colorum units, LTFRB regional director Romolu Bernardes, said yesterday.

Bernardes said that they are following the route measurement capacity that determines the allowable number of PUJs allowed to travel at a certain route, and for Bacolod City, the number PUJs operating and plying all routes complement the needs of the riding public.

However, the LTFRB is giving special permits to operators of arrested colorum units since they have been operating and are included in the RMC survey, he said.

Colorum operators have to go through legislations and must present the inspection report summons as proof that they have been arrested, Bernardes also said.

Meanwhile, Bernardes explained that all PUJ operators have to get a tax clearance from the Bureau of Internal Revenue as one of the LTFRBs requirements for the reactivation of their old franchises.

He said the tax clearance is necessary to prove that operators are paying correct taxes to the BIR.

Bernardes reminded all drivers and operators to renew their franchises on time to avoid penalties, be updated on the new policies of the agency, and to collect only the approved consumer fair for students and senior citizens. *LTG
