BY CARLA GOMEZ

Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. yesterday said the United Negros Alliance, which he heads, will field a full slate from congressmen, governor, vice governor, board members, mayors down to councilors for the 2013 elections in Negros Occidental.

The governor, a first termer who is seeking reelection, is being challenged by his 2010 partner, Vice Governor Genaro Alvarez Jr. An attempt by top leaders of the province to get the two to reach a compromise and prevent a showdown last week had failed.

Rep. Alfredo Abelardo Benitez (Neg. Occ., 3rd District) said another meeting is being arranged this week to, hopefully, prevent a breakup of the long existing political coalition in the province.moremoremore
