2 deaths, 334 dengue cases noted
BY ROMY AMARADO

Dumaguete City residents are being urged again to search and destroy the breeding places of mosquito, especially with the increase in the number of dengue cases.

City Health Officer Ma. Sarah Talla said that from January to the last week of August, 334 cases of dengue fever have been recorded, with two fatalities from barangays Bajumpandan and Piapi. For the whole of 2011, there were 135 cases with one death.

Barangays 5 to 8 have the most number of cases at 39 each, Piapi with 31 cases, Bajumpandan-27, Calindagan-25, Cadawinonan and Taclobo, 23 each, and Batinguel, 20. The rest of the barangays have 19 to six cases each, except for Balugo and Bunao that have zero case, Talla said.

She warned that the number of cases may continue to increase, and encouraged the community to participate in the search and destroy activities to deprive the mosquito vector of breeding places.*RA
