2 robbery suspects nabbed

Two suspected robbers were apprehended by Station 2 policemen when they attempted to rob a store selling ready-to-wear clothes and a residence in Brgy. 4, Bacolod City yesterday.

Station 2 chief, Senior Insp. Robert Dejucos identified those arrested as Mark Joseph Hugo, 34, of Purok Lubi, Brgy. 3, and Niño Cubellas, 33, of Purok 4 Sitio Magsungay, Brgy. Singcang-Airport, Bacolod .

Jimmy Bangquiro told the police that he saw Hugo and his companion, identified as “alias Mayong,” on his closed circuit television camera while they were destroying the padlock of his store, which is near his house, at about 4:45 a.m. yesterday.

Bangquiro immediately reported the incident to the police and this led to the arrest of Hugo, while “alias Mayong” escaped by climbing the wall of the nearby Andres Bonifacio Elementary School 1.

A filter, a screw driver and Crisen were seized from Hugo during his arrest, a police record show.

Meanwhile, Joseph Anthony Fuentabella, 46, of 19 th -Aguinaldo Street, Brgy. 4, who owns the apartment rented by Bangquiro, also reported to the police that his house was robbed and one of the suspects hit his head with a shotgun at about 6:03 a.m. yesterday.

Fuentebella said he went to the store of Bangquiro when he learned that it was ransacked, to take pictures of the suspect and forgot to lock the main door of his house. When he returned, he said, he saw a man, whom he later identified as Cubellas, with a flashlight in his mouth and holding the 12 gauge shotgun he owned.

He added that he tried to wrest the shotgun from Cubellas, who hit his head with the firearm.

Fuentebella reported the incident to the police who immediately went to his house, but before the team, led by Senior Police Officer 1 Dante Escorpion could come near, Cubellas shot at them three times, but missed.

When the shotgun had no more bullets, Escorpion said he accosted Cubellas but his two companions fled.

Cubellas admitted entering the house of Fuentebella but denied shooting the policemen.

Two cellular phones valued at P18,000, five wristwatches for men worth P24,000 each, two floor strainer valued at P200, two pairs of rubbers shoes valued at P12,000, a golden necklace worth P25,000, a wallet with P4,050 in cash, another wallet with Singaporean dollars, a bundle of keys, and a bag with undetermined contents, were recovered from Cubellas, the police said.

Bacolod City police director Senior Supt. Ricardo de la Paz lauded Station 2 policemen for the arrest of Cubellas and Hugo, and also ordered an investigation to determine if the two belong to one group.*APN/RQB

‘Salisi thief' arrested

A suspected salisi thief victimizing those holding wakes for their departed loved ones in funeral homes in Bacolod City, was apprehended by Station 2 policemen at about 4:45 a.m. yesterday at 27 th Lacson Street.

Station 2 chief, Senior Insp. Robert Dejucos, identified the one arrested as Nobel Cuadra, 22, of Purok Sigay in Brgy. 2, Bacolod .

Cuadra denied the claims against her when she was presented at the office of Bacolod City police director Senior Supt. Ricardo de la Paz.

Evangeline Hecita, 57, of Maso Street, Brgy. Villamonte told the police that she was at the wake of her sister-in-law at the Rolling Hills Memorial Chapels when Cuadra, who introduced herself as a family friend, arrived and with two unidentified male companions.

Hecita said she offered Cuadra and the men food and drinks, but later she fell asleep. When she woke up, she said she saw Cuadra stealing her bag, prompting her to seek help.

She sought the help of Insp. Asension Ortizo, whose companions were conducting patrol operation at the area the time, and they chased Cuadra.

Hecita's bag, which contained her personal belongings and wallet with P750 in cash, was recovered from Cuadra during her arrest.*APN

Cars burglarized

A car owned by a call center agent that was parked in Brgy. Handumanan, Bacolod City, was burglarized Sunday, and the thieves took items worth P49,000.

Jobe Clint Aboy, 26, of Santo Niño Village in Silay City, Negros Occidental, told the police that he parked his yellow Toyota Altis near the basketball court in Purok San Roque to visit a friend. When he returned at about 3 a.m., he discovered that the window on the passenger side window had been smashed.

Aboy said two tennis rackets valued at P30,000, five badminton rackets worth P2,000 each, a tennis racket bag valued at P500, a pair of rubber shoes worth P2,500, and assorted tools worth P6,000, were gone from his car.

He said the suspects also tried to steal his car stereo but failed to detach it.

Station 10 chief, Senior Insp. Terrence Paul Santa Ana, said the suspects could be minors living near the area where the car was parked.

He said they already have suspects and are now conducting a follow-up operation to arrest them and recover the stolen items.

Thieves also forced open the service vehicle of the Baptist Church in Bacolod in Purok San Antonio, Brgy. Sum-ag, Saturday and took the car battery valued at P3,000.

Esther Locsin, 37, said she discovered the theft when she opened the van parked in front of their church at about 7:30 a.m. Saturday.*APN
