Negrense pianist
performs for a cause

Internationally-renowned Negrense pianist Leonor Kilayko recently gave a solo concert in Makati City for the benefit of the Aeta Foundation, a press release said.

Kilayko played Scarlatti Sonatas, a concert étude of Franz Liszt, a Chopin Ballade and Debussy's Pour le piano to a full house. The event was a joint venture with painters Vinzon Yap, Mario de Rivera, Noel Cuisia and Rene Servos, the press release also said.

In the audience were Kilayko's personal impresario, Richard Sy-Facunda, Aeta Foundation president Mike Ng, television talk show host Jullie Yap Daza, Josie Darang, and Jun Alvendia among others, the press release added.*

Translated ‘Margosatubig'
to be launched

The translated version of Ramon Muzones' Hiligaynon novel “Margosatubig” will be launched 5:30 p.m. Friday, at the Negros Museum in Bacolod City, a press release from organizers said.

There will also be excerpts reading of the novel translated to English by Dr. Ma. Cecilia Locsin–Nava. The book tells the story of a fictive Muslim state in Mindanao that loses its legitimate rulers through intrigue and treachery and how the hero-heir leads the struggle to recover it from the usurpers, the press release added.*

Nat'l Family Week
celebration Sept. 29

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day will celebrate the National Family Week on the theme “Ensuring Work Family Balance”, on September 29 at the compound of the church chapel at San Agustin Street, La Carlota City, Negros Occidental, its press release said.

The celebration will be highlighted by a motorcade parade in the morning, bloodletting, poster making, booth display and the “Kainang Pamilya Mahalaga Day” program, in cooperation with the Department of Social Welfare and Development, event coordinator Cris Millado said in the press release.

The celebration will focus in promoting family solidarity as directed under Executive Order 326 signed by President Benigno Aquino III, the press release added.*

Silay vying for best
tourism-oriented LGUs in PHL

Silay City in Negros Occidental is vying in the search for the 2012 Most Outstanding Tourism-Oriented Local Government Unit of the country, a press release from the city said.

Its Hugyaw Kansilay Festival, the Silay Christmas Village, and “Scenic Silay, Sugary Tourism, Scintillating Silaynons”, are also finalists in the Best Tourism Event and Best Tourism Month categories of the competition, respectively, the press release also said.

The Pearl Award Best Tourism Practices of the Philippines is sponsored by the Association of Tourism Officers of the Philippines and the Department of Tourism.

Kenneth Benignos, chair of the Committee on Awards of the 13 th ATOP Convention, said the competition aims to honor creative works and services of people in the tourism industry, the press release said.

Silay tourism officer Severino Pacete, Community Affairs officer Armin Paredes, and consultant Neil Solomon Locsin will attend the final assessment of documents and interview with the judges in Manila Sept. 13 and 14, the press release added.*
