City SWAT needs equipment
BY ADRIAN NEMES III

The Bacolod City Police Special Weapons and Tactics Unit members still have inadequate equipment and this hinders their performance of duties, SWAT head, Supt. Alex Dimaculangan, admitted to the DAILY STAR Tuesday.

Dimaculangan said they have already sought the help of Bacolod Rep. Anthony Golez and Mayor Evelio Leonardia for the purchase of at least P3 million in additional equipments but they have not replied yet.

During the time of former Bacolod City Police Director Senior Supt. Celestino Guara, the SWAT unit had enumerated the equipment they needed but only some were purchased because of lack of budget.

In June last year, the Bacolod City government gave P1 million worth of equipment to the city police’s SWAT unit, police records show.

Meanwhile, Dimaculangan said the SWAT unit is set to join a competition in Cebu this month.

Bacolod SWAT members were adjudged first runner-up in the regional marksmanship competition sponsored by the Police Regional Office-6 held in Pototan town in Iloilo province last year, where they were graded based on the policemen’s firing speed and accuracy.

The BCPO SWAT also ranked second in terms of performance among the seven SWAT units inspected by Camp Crame last year.*APN
