‘698,337 Negrenses in list-up’
BY JUDY F. PARTLOW

The Commission on Elections in Negros Oriental yesterday reported that 698,337 Negrenses have registered for next year’s poll, and is calling on those who have not yet registered to do so before the October 31 deadline.

Provincial election supervisor Eddie Aba said he is confident that the COMELEC will surpass the 714,761 voters in the May 2010 election, and the deficit of more than 17,000 registrants.

He cited the tendency of Filipinos to flock to the COMELEC offices at the last hour to register. He added that there is still time for them, especially those who recently turned 18 to register.

Registration is held Mondays to Saturdays, and holidays. Aba said the COMELEC central office might even order it to be held Sundays as the deadline nears.

He also said the Commission updated its records after delisting the names of voters who failed to vote in the last two elections, those who died, or who transferred outside the province.

However, the Commission will suspend the registration from October 1 to 5 for the filing of the certificates of candidacy of those running in the 2013 election, Aba said.*JFP
