special nonworking day

President Benigno Aquino III has declared September 12, which falls on a Wednesday, as a special (non-working day) in Siquijor to commemorate its 40th year as the capital town of the province, a government press release said.

Aquino issued the declaration through Proclamation 458, signed by Executive Secretary Paquito Ochoa Jr. on August 14, to give the people of Siquijor town the opportunity to celebrate and participate in the occasion.

The town of Siquijor became the capital of the island province by virtue of Proclamation 1075 in 1972. The previous capital was Larena town, the press release added.*
